We began working on finding a new apartment for the sisters since we got here. The Parkinsons told us there were mold issues in their old apartment and when we saw the photos of black mold growing behind the curtains we were convinced they needed to move. After viewing several other apartments, and careful consideration of their safety, the proximity to the church, the beauty of the neighborhood and the features of the apartment, the mission office (Elder Purrington), the Parkinsons and us selected the apartment on the 2nd floor of Panienska street for the sisters. After Elder Purrington completed his mission, Elder Pramis became the new housing coordinator. Both he and I have a lot of housing experience but all of it was in the United States and they do things differently here. Fortunately we had a hard working realtor, Cecylia, who spoke English well to guide us through the process of leasing an apartment. President Roney was also key in helping conclude the signing process.
The sisters successfully moved on Wednesday. You can see from the photo that our little car was packed to the ceiling. I said, “I want a photo of this car so I can make a post on Facebook!” Elder Wicker told me the right quote to go with it:
“Sometimes we mistakenly may believe that happiness is the absence of a load. But bearing a load is a necessary and essential part of the plan of happiness. Because our individual load needs to generate spiritual traction, we should be careful to not haul around in our lives so many nice but unnecessary things that we are distracted and diverted from the things that truly matter most.” (David A. Bednar April 2014 Generał Conference)
