Wolf’s Lair

On our preparation day we and the elders visited Adolf Hitler’s Wolf’s Lair located in eastern Poland.  This isolated outpost was where Hitler lived from June 1941 to November 1944 (about 3 1/2 years) and from where he waged World War II.  We saw what remained of the buildings of the compound, the communications network, and especially the enormous bunkers where he felt safe from enemy bombs, although none were dropped there.  This was also the location where an unsuccessful attempt was made on his life by a top general.  About six months after leaving Wolf’s Lair, Hitler died in Berlin by his own hand.  After spending time thinking about all of this, I think of Jesus words, “Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword” (Matthew 26:52).
