This week marked the end of finals! I took 3 of my 4 finals on Friday and Saturday, then finished the last one on Monday afternoon. I’ll be working with Dr. Smalley in the lab this summer making volumetric displays. Recently he has asked us to learn how to use our spatial light modulator (SLM), so I spent this week learning how it works.
On Thursday I went to Julia’s graduation and met her family! There were some great speakers (including Elder Gong) at commencement. After commencement we went to Black Sheep Cafe and ate lots of yummy navajo tacos and nachos.

The Hammonds invited me to come to Lagoon with them on Saturday 🥳: I couldn’t possibly refuse an offer like that. So on Saturday morning I picked up Julia and met her parents and sisters at the park. We rode all the roller coasters and had a great time with one small exception. During the Colossus (pictured on the right), my car keys slipped out my pocket and fell into the ether. I discovered my lack of keys while walking out of the ride exit, and after a brief moment of dread that my car would be stuck in the Lagoon parking lot forever, I remembered that the volt has a spare key in Henefer. But how would I get into the house in Henefer without the house key located on my ejected keyring?
I couldn’t help but laugh at the conundrum I had fallen into. I talked to the ride attendant and he said they would look for the keys when the ride closed at 7pm 🤦♂️. I predicted that there was a one in three chance that they could find my keys that day, so I started planning how I could get to Henefer. Luckily Melodie lives 10 minutes away from Lagoon, so I could steal her car and house key.
Well, I thought, I may as well just enjoy the day at Lagoon with the Hammonds on the off chance that they find my keys. So we had a great time despite the weather being rainy.

At 7:00 we marched to the lost and found and described my keys to the staff. The lady walked to a wall of containers full of lost items and rummaged around. Imagine my surprise when she returned with the keys to my wonderful chevy volt!
Moral of the story: the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those who lose their keys at Lagoon.
