Home Renovations (2024)

Since our laundry room was a pretty decent sized space, we knew from the beginning that at some point we’d want to add some sort of counter and shelving. Turned out to be quite a project that we may have been a little unprepared for.

Bryant ordered the butcher block & when it arrived we had hoped that we could get is cut directly at home depot with their rental tools onsite since we purchased it there. It seemed that the particular tool to be used was broken…at a loss and a bit unsure of what to do we drove it over to our nearest Lowes. Who sadly wouldn’t cut it because we didn’t purchase the wood from them… One thing that doesn’t come with a house are all the tools that you’d typically find in your parents garage (sad fact) BUT we made it work. We ended up having to buy some necessary tools & when all things arrived we got right down to it! We learned that we still may not have had all tools needed and made due by turning over some plastic bins we had, used a fairly sturdy piece of cardboard to line up where we wanted the cut (after careful measuring) put some sunglasses on for safety and cut!

That butcher block was SOOO heavy. I think Bryant and I both almost died trying to get it into the laundry room, and sadly we had to try more than once. Even though we measured perfectly. It might have been because we struggled to lift it exactly right, but we decided we had to make another small cut or we’d never get it into place. We learned a lot, and beat up one wall a little (and one day will be painted over) but we did it! and it looks so nice!
